January's Book club- change of place and date

Next month we are reading Family Tree by Barbara Delinsky. We are having it at Channing's house instead of Heather's. Also, we moved it to the 8th of month (2nd Thursday) instead of the 1st. The books choosen for following months are listed on the sidebar. I moved myself into Heidi's opening (we will miss you Heidi!).

Follow Up on Enders Game

I hope everyone enjoyed last months book. If you are interested in more Ender Reading, here is the list I found (in chronological order). The most famous sequel is Ender's Shadow. The books are meant to be read in any order as long as Children of the Mind follows Xenocide.

Ender's Game
A War of Gifts: An Ender Story (set during Ender's Game)
Ender's Shadow (Parallel Novel to Ender's Game as seen by Bean)
Ender in Exile (begins at the end of Ender's Game and ends after Giant leading into Speaker)
Shadow of the Hegemon
Shadow Puppets
Shadow of the Giant
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind

December Book Club *updated*

Just a reminder that our book for December is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. It will be December 4th at 7:00 at Emily's house. Emily says that she has a copy of the book if someone needs to borrow it.

Also, we have the next two months of books. January will be at Heather's house. It is Family Tree by Barbara Delinsky. March is 1000 Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and will be at Channing's house. I believe both are the first Thursday of each month. Happy Reading!!
*Updated- I originally listed Channing as February, but the sidebar shows her as March so I will keep her on March and Diana on February unless I hear otherwise*

Here is what we talked about at last book club:

Choosing books- Books will be choosen two months in advance on a rotating schedule. If possible bring a few options for everyone to choose from.

Place- To ensure that the person hosting book club is interested in attending their asigned month, book club will be held at the home of whomever choose the book that month. If they would rather not host book club at their house, they can opt to have it at someone else's house (just let everyone know!)

Time- 1st Thursday of the month at 7 o'clock unless otherwise noted.

Refreshments- Potluck
.
Children- Please try to only bring nursing babies.

If I forgot to mention something, let me know! Otherwise we will be seeing you in Novemeber!

Date Time and Place

I thought we could meet September 24th @ 7:00 at my house.

I would like to know who is attending, let me know in comments!

If you have any questions, you can leave them in the comments section or email me at latermom (at) gmail (dot) com.

Welcome

I hope there are more people interested in reading and talking about what they read. Since this would be the 1st month, I thought I would list some easy reads (that would still be fun to talk about). Here is what I came up with:

  • Fablehaven by Brandon Mull~ This is a children's fantasy book, but I found it to be cute and clever.
  • Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns~ A simple memoir type story. I read it in high school.
  • Treason by Orson Scott Card~ One of his first books, this is a definite sci-fi/fantasy type book. That man's mind is fascinating and bizarre.
  • The Turn of the Screw by Henry James~ A chilling short story.

Since everyone will be busy with end of summer/beginning of school year activities, I tried to pick books that wouldn't take long to read but still could be discussed. Just vote on the poll in the sidebar within the next week on which one you would most like to read. That way we can take sometime to set up how we'd like the book club to work: how to pick the book, rules for children coming, where and when to have meetings, refreshments, etc.
